With NJT unveiling their new bilevel coaches today, I was curious about something. Obviously they've designed these cars to fit through the Hudson tunnels. Would this mean they'd be able to work in the Center City Tunnel, and elsewhere in the Philly system? Are there any choke points or low bridges that would preclude their use?

I don't really think they would be right for SEPTA, but it would be great if they could be put to use on an affordable New York - Philadelphia express, either on the Northeast Corridor, or on a restored West Trenton - Bound Brook line as NJT is exploring. But really, my question is whether its possible, not if its a good idea.

The NJT Bilevels are designed to fit through the Hudson River tubes and under the minimum catenary height, I would certainly expect that they'd work under pretty much any clearance on the Septa system.
