With the new tranportation bill, a new connection via a railroad bridge will replace the current bridge between Brownsville, TX and Matamoros, MX. The new track alignment will effectively remove all through movements through both cities, on a new alignment heading west from the new UP yard in Olmito, TX, just north of Brownsville. It will require about 12 new miles of right of way.
