Remember, these are just the designators for the stations, and that this crew symbol system is ONLY for ROAD FREIGHTS. That DOESN'T MEAN that there are crew runs originating or terminating at all these points. At some point in the future, there COULD BE with some select locations. This way the crew terminal system allows for changes when this is completely in place. Presently, it has begun to some extent while being phased in slowly. Don't expect to hear these new symbols over the radio right away, the phasing in process will be slow. Right now the locations on the list above that do not meet the contractual criteria for crew reporting points and need to be finalized: Boston, Bow, Brattleboro, Gardner, Hoosick Jct., Mt. Tom, N. Bennington, Springfield. Examples of this new symbol designation would be like this: XYnn-N. Where X is the code for the ORIGINATING crew Terminal, Y is the code for the TERMINATING Terminal. nn is the hour that the crew normally reports for duty and N is the "side" of the crew in rotation. (These letters don't correspond to the above list and are used solely as an example) The AYMO crew goes all the way to Mohawk yard. Their crew symbol is AM19-2 and MA15-2. (These letters DO represent the terminals where the crew goes on duty should this be heard over the radio at any given time) The new E.Deerfield to Rigby crews are designated as such: ER18 and ER22. On the return they would be REnn. In other words an E. Deerfield to Rigby crew would be going on duty at 1800 hours. The second Eastbound would leave E. Deerfield at 2200 hours. (Military time is always used) What this all means is that the four letter usage of the Pan Am road freights will eventually be phased out, then coincide with the way NS has their's set up.
