I will be traveling from Plattsburgh to Rochester in November. There is a two hour layover in Schenectady where I hope to have dinner. I've looked into the neighborhood around the Schenectady Amtrak station online and to my pleasant surprise it looks decent. There are several nice restaurants including a Moroccan restaurant and a bed and breakfast within in easy walking distance of the station. Can someone out there confirm that the neighborhood is good? Thanks in advance!

The Schenectady Amtrak station is a half block south of the downtown business/entertainment district. While the station is no Penn Station it is going to be rebuilt in the next two years. The area is safe and often busy when the Proctor's theater complex ( a block and a half from the station) is hosting Broadway touring productions. A movie theater complex & many restaurants also draw traffic to the area. The city is undergoing a mini-revival which is bring a casino complex with hotels, a marina and service businesses scheduled to open south of the station by the end of 2017. You will enjoy your brief stop in Schenectady.
