Anybody have a sense of how MetroNorth gets its money?
I know the 0.25% sales tax surcharge is a big piece of the operating budget for the trains and suburban buses. And, the state underwrites some of the capital costs for new trains, etc. And, the fare box covers about 50% of the operating cost (is this still true?).
But, MTA reallocates some of the bridge and tunnel tolls to NYCTA, LIRR, MetroNorth, both for capital and operating costs. And, they're always moving money around
Where does the money come from, and how much is in each bucket?
