Seems diesel-electric locomotive technology should be pretty mature by now, excepting some of the Tier 3 computer controls, is that where the majority of issues arise? There are a lot of software issues for starters, the locomotives have the traditional GE screens and the aftermarket screens that communicate with the equipment in the Rotems (they aren't playing nice together.) The locomotives are new and issues were expected however as far as realibility they are no where near up to par yet, not to mention ive been hearing from some of the road foreman that the AC traction hasn't lived up to expectations either on slippery rail. I'm not qualified to answer this so don't quote me however I was told the traction motors and bearings are both being replaced.
Also, the warranty work/fix is for axle/wheel bearings, traction motor bearings, or other?
Is more detail available?
