For anyone in the Southwest interested in seeing something different, there is a makeup Sunset Limited running LAX-TUS last night/this morning. Train 1, due in Sunday morning, was 13 hours late and terminated at Tucson.
This makeup train has seven Horizon cars (Horizons on a Sunset!), plus the dome 10031, sandwiched between a P32 on each end.
The passengers will transfer between the makeup train and the "real" train in Tucson, and then reportedly the makeup train will deadhead back to LAX, taking along a couple of Superliner diners and a lounge that were deadheading west on the short-turned Sunset.
Of course, there is no schedule for the westbound deadhead train (when it gets there, it gets there), but anyone living along the Sunset route Tucson or west, if you want to get some "rare" photos, here's your chance.
