ROCKLAND, Maine - On Saturday, May 19, 2007, the 470 Railroad Club and MRG, Inc./DownEast Rail will jointly sponsor a special Maine Eastern Railroad train from Rockland to Brunswick, the tourist line's regular run, that will add a round trip onward to Lisbon Falls as a one-time rare-mileage opportunity.

The train will leave Rockland at 8 a.m., arriving in Brunswick at 10 a.m. MRG, Inc. will then hold its Annual Meeting, to which all are invited, at the Elks Club in Brunswick. Following the meeting, the special train will depart Brunswick at 11:45, stop at the Cedar Street parking area, and then make the a rare-mileage trip to Lisbon Falls and return on the former Maine Central Lewiston Lower Branch. As far as the sponsors know, no passenger train has traversed any part of the Lewiston Lower Branch since regular service was abandoned in 1932.

Return to Brunswick is planned for 3:15 p.m. and to Rockland by 5:30 p.m. It may be possible for passengers also to board at Wiscasset or Bath. Passengers may elect to ride only Brunswick to Lisbon Falls and return, but the sponsors cannot offer a fare discount for this option. The fare is $50 per person, and a box lunch will be available for an additional $12. For details, send an email inquiry to [email protected] or write to The 470 Railroad Club, P.O. Box 641, Portland ME 04104. Tickets may be ordered by sending a check and stamped addressed envelope to the Box 641 address.
