Pardon this potentially stupid question, but....

If the abbreviation/shorthand for the Morris & Essex lines of NJT is M&E, what's the abbreviation/shorthand for the Morristown & Erie?

Or, is M&E the abbreviation for Morristown & Erie?

Also, how do we tell apart the two RVRRs (other than by context)?

I ask this because there have been many times when the conversation is too general to know which of these choices is being discussed.

Please help!

Haha well this is one of those confusing moements in the railroading industry. The Morris and Essex NJT line is infact M&E.... The Morristown and Erie also goes by M&E, or as you can see in my avatar ME... It really depends on who your talking to, some say M&E, some say ME... When I wrote a term paper for school last year I used M&E. But now with the Maine Eastern (ME) this could get even more confusing, we will have to see.

Let's try:
RVL = Raritan Valley Line
RVRR = Rahway Valley RR
ME or MERR = Morristown and Erie (ME is the Alpha for their reporting marks)
MandE = Morris and Essex

Lets not forget

Rahway Valley Rail Road...

Don't forget Rockaway Valley RR...

Oh crap! What have I started!!!!

So far there are 3 "ME"s and 3 "RV"s. Is there some regulatory body that determines these?

I saw this one on the NJT website's fare option page:

RARV - Raritan Valley Line.

Maybe NJT figured too many RVs are not a good thing.
