I was recently there and it looks long enough to fit two 8 car trains.

Is this correct? Was it ever used this way?

Yes - Loyola Station has a curved platform long enough for two 8 car trains.
This looks to be the longest station platform that the CTA has other then the continuous
island platforms in both the State and Dearborn subways through Downtown Chicago...
