Hey all
I visited the Steamtown Historial Park yesterday, in Scranton, PA. This place is really good. Alot of hands on exhibits, half of which are actual locomotives and rolling stock (All immaculately restored for static exhibition), with the museum being centred around an original roundhouse facility. Part of the facilities is a public-accessible walkway that goes through the actual running shed where operational steam locomotives Baldwin #26, Canadian Pacific #2317, Canadian Mikado #3254 and Boston and Maine Lima #3713 were stabled and being serviced!
Apart from that, the other exhibits were also high-quality, different roundhouse sections were dedicated to different exhibits. One section showcased how steam operates, others showcased railroad workers, etc. More information can be found at: http://www.nps.gov/stea/index.htm
Photos are following.
Roundhouse facility
Steam Locomotive Heavy Maintenance Workshop
Railroad Maintenance Workshop and Yard
Steam Locomotive running shed
Other exhibits, and Model Railroad
ALOT more photographs can be found on the Fotopic page at: http://gallerymaikha.photoblog.me.uk/c1039283.html
Also, photographs of Big Boy Locomotive #4012 based at Steamtown can be found on another thread at: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 065#276065
Enjoy!
