I plan to upload photos of all the different F Units one day when I have time. I thought it would be nice to have them all together in an album somewhere. I have roster photos of all the ones that were rebuilt in the 1981-1983 period. I have heritage information for all the F units, as seen below. If any of you guys know where particular engines went, can you post it here? I' know where they came from, but have some holes on where they went. I eventually will do it for the GP38-2's, the MP15's and the SW1001's, but figured I'd start with the F's as my "LIRR 3100" thread seemed to spark a lot of interest in the F units.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll post the link to the F Unit album in the next few weeks when I get them all online. Any information on any of the units would be greatly appreciated, expecially where they are now.

Actually, the 619 was an F9A, and the 615 was ex-GN 442A before going to the SP&S.

610, ex-Western Maryland 302 presently sits in the former D&H yards at Colonie, NY. The unit was owned by the Mohawk & Hudson chapter NRHS but was sold several years ago to the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society. WMRHS has been trying to bring the unit back to Maryland but they can't seem to raise the money to do it. 610 was originally kept indoors but when CP took over, they evicted M&H and all their equipment is now outdoors. Because of this 610 is in pretty poor shape. Also on an adjacent track is an ex LIRR S-1 which supposedly has been abandoned by it's owner who cannot be located. Check out the 2 links below:

Regarding the #619:

GP38 did list it as an F9A.

I mentioned that #620 thru #623 were F7am models.

Were the FA series locomotives delivered to the Long Island Railroad in the late 1940s to the early 1950's?

  by JoeLIRR

Frank, i think the FA's were delivered in the '70's along with the geeps and MP15's

  by RRChef

The LIRR was not an original purchaser of FA's from Alco. If you scroll up to Mr. Keller's post you will notice that they were all purchased between 1971 and 1974.

Guys . . . .

Please read my post above. It lists the LIRR's acquisition dates of the units.

There's a LIRR FA unit at the Illinois Railway Museum. Somewhere I have a picture of it and if I can find it, I'll post it.

The FA at IRM is 604, ex Louisville & Nashville 314. If I remember correctly this unit still has its 244 prime mover.
