We have some exciting announcements for this Holiday season, and our first one is a new item in our store. We have reproduced "The Game of a Trip with Phoebe Snow", which was originally produced in 1899! Spin a dial and try to be the first player to reach San Francisco. Spaces on the board are represented by cities alo...ng the way, or spaces requiring the player to go to the dining car or meet Miss Snow.

Like Phoebe Snow herself, the game faded away around the time of World War I. Originals are hard to come by and command high prices among vintage game collectors. We were able to borrow an original and create reproductions of this unique Lackawanna-themed board game.

The Phoebe Snow never ran to San Francisco, but thanks to ELDCPS, you now can in the comfort of your own home!

Visit http://www.eldcps.org/store/The-Game-of ... -Snow.html to order your copy!

Very interesting! I'll cross post your message to a couple of other boards I frequent.

As soon as I saw the detail image on the website, my immediate thought was, "Hmm, what was the routing from New York to San Francisco?" Could be the DL&W to the Wabash to the UP to the SP, I'm saying this being lazy and not actually looking it up.

And why doesn't Hoboken have a space? [insert smilie here]

The routing shown from Buffalo to Chicago is via the Michigan Central/Canada Southern route.

Through Pullman accommodations from Hoboken to Chicago along this route existed up to 1941: the 4/30/39 timetable shows the DL&W 5/NYC 17 westbound, and its eastbound component in DL&W 6 (Lackawanna Limited)/NYC 40. Service was provided by a 12-1 heavyweight. Interestingly, the service eastbound disappears in the 4/28/40 timetable, but the westbound continues until the 7/15/41 timetable, where the truncated Hoboken - Detroit service (with 12-1 accommodation) appears.

The Detroit service lasted another 15 years. The 5/10/56 timetable shows Car 440, Detroit-Hoboken, heading east on NYC 44/DL&W 2 6 days a week, reported as 6-6 accommodations. Heading west, its counterpart is Car 50 via DL&W 5 ("Twilight")/NYC 47/375, Daily except
Saturday. This routing disappears in the 9/5/56 timetable.
