Back in 1968, LIRR was shopping around for some "previously owned" lightweight passenger cars to replace some of their older coaches and heavyweight parlor cars. In August and September 1968, they bought a trio of 14 roomette 4 double bedroom lightweight sleepers and 16 lightweight coaches from KCS. The three sleepers were used in daytime first class parlor car service on The Cannonball and other trains between New York City, the Hamptons and Montauk. The coaches held various assignments on Long Island. The cars ran for awhile in KCS colors before LIRR repainted them in NY MTA / LIRR colors and renumebered/renamed them. LIRR retired all of these former KCS cars in the 1975-1976 era. All are presumed to be scrapped, with the exception of the former KCS coach 246, later KCS 262, later LIRR 8564, which is privately owned today and stored with the Midland Railway Historical Association in Baldwin City, Kansas. I'd love to have current photo of that car.
