Walthers has recently released some streamlined coaches and I am wondering which models are most appropriate for modeling MNR early 80's "transition-era" coaches (i.e. pre-Shoreliners from Bombardier):

Budd 46-seater

Budd 52-seater

P-S 64-seater

Did New Haven lightweights run in the fleet in the early 80's?

Any advice on the makeup of the pre-Shoreliner fleet would be very welcome!

Thanks

You might also want to try the HO & N Scale Forum for more detailed answers.

Do you have photos of specific equipment you are trying to model? That always helps, especially when you consider the hodge-podge of equipment MN inherited in 1983.

What I am actually looking for is information specific to Metro-North on what equipment was in service at that time so I can determine what models would be appropriate. Therefore, I figured that this would be the best place to look

I would have thought that Dutch Rail Nut, Mr. Weaver, or people with a similar depth of experience in coaches would be able to help out.

Here is a start for you...

Honestly, you can create a reasonably passable model with the Athearn streamlined coach, and painting a blue stripe, and applying the proper decals. You could even use the new Budd streamline coach just released by Walthers, too (and spend more money).

Those coaches in the link are the new Walthers coaches. I'm thinking about getting some Amtrak ones.

If you're modelling late MTA and early MN, you definitely want to throw in some Amtrak coaches in the Phase 1 scheme... many Amtrak Budd coaches were on the Hudson and Harlem Lines back then... not to mention the entire Deleware & Hudson passenger fleet that NYSDOT paid for to run on the Amtrak Adirondack... The D&H cars usually ran as a unit (at least in the photos I've seen), and were rarely split up.
