Having not been into HO modeling since teen years. I have just gotten back into it. I have started getting some rolling stock and noticed some differences...the couplers. Which ones are better?
Also, need opinions on best Amtrak Company - Walthers?
Need some guidance

The standard coupler today is Kadee. The hornhook couplers met their fate in the mid 90's so to speak. Today there are several versions of couplers, commonly known as "Kadee Clones", several companies market these style couplers. These are normally plastic, whereas Kadee couplers are solid metal.
They are all commonly called "Knuckle Couplers".
Kadee has probably the best repuation with couplers, solid design and will last forever so to speak.
The next would be McHenry. These couplers have come along way in the past 5 years.
Overall, stick with Kadee. #5 is the common coupler and the #58 is called the scale coupler (closer to real HO demension).
Buy a few brands, see what you like the best.
As for Amtrak stuff. Yes I would have to say Walthers has the market. If you wait for a few months, KATO is suppose to be coming out with the latest F40PH.
Athearn has done some Amtrak engines, guess it depends on what time frame you want when it comes to engines. Walthers is the best when it comes to cars though.
