Folks,

Early this morning, around 2:30 AM, East Stroudsburg Fire Department responded to a call for the apparatus at Dansbury Depot, formerly a DL&W Station.

Below is a link to a video I shot during the fire.

Also, is a video regarding the aftermath, more or less a compilation of photos I took later in the morning.

Hopefully, since she is on the National Register of Historic Places, she will be rebuilt.

Joe.

Hey Joe... Perhaps, but I don't know how that works with the Register... AFAIK, from what I was told, half the structure was pretty badly damaged and the interior gutted so it would have to be totally rebuilt from the ground up.

Was the building properly insured? Who is the actual owner(s) of the building?

There was a rally today to save the station.

It's wonderful that the townfolk and other supporters want the depot saved, but having read that the depot was in such rough shape---is it even salvagable?

From what I was told, at least half the station was salvageable. That being said, the developer plans on demolishing the entire structure and putting up a modern complex.! :(

Any news about what's going to happen to the station? I hope they don't raze it. Not only because it's a historical building. But it belonged to my favorite railroad.

News says they have till Friday to buy it to preserve it. However, the developer himself are complaining that the building would need a total replacement despite.

Another one.. Seems there is a real strong push now to keep this depot from being demolished.

"July 25, 2010

Dr. Joseph Mattioli, owner of Pocono Raceway, came by the rally today at
Dansbury Depot and pledged $500,000 to save the burned out historic train
station.

The depot, which burned in October, was slated for demolition by its new
owner Troy Nauman. On Friday, the judge granted a temporary injunction to
delay the demolition for 30 days."

The ideal solution if feasible both financially & logistically would be to relocate it and let the owner of the property do what he wants with his land.

If this is a solution, where do you think it should go? Because of the potential for vandalism I would LOVE to see it moved and refurbished at Steamtown. While the Stroudsburgs have lots of community open space, I have a feeling it wouldn't last long if it was just sitting out there.

I think we've lost at this point. There's very little we can do at this point except say goodbye to another DL&W station.

Yes, BS!
I'm at lost for words, but all you can do now is hope they can include some of the old architecture and the station canopies with the new structure they plan.

Once they bulldoze it then I will be locking this thread down!
