The last all wood trestle on the E&N Railway's Victoria Subidivision has burned. Closing the E&N's Victoria Subdivision north of Nanaimo, BC. The bridge, located at mileage 79.9 on the Victoria Subdivision, caught fire after the northbound RDC's had passed over it, stranding the Budds north of Nanaimo. A spark from an overheated brake pad is apparently to blame. Insurance should cover most of the cost to rebuild. No word yet on how long it will take to rebuild the bridge, or when the E&N will reopen north of Nanaimo. The logging operation on the Port Alberni Sub and freight service on the south end of the Victoria Sub are unaffected.
