What is interesting is that over the past couple decades, prices on the older GE's have come way down, while the even older Geeps are bringing more. FGLK was able to get higher horsepower B23's and I believe they are down to 2 GP9's, 1701 and 1703. Meanwhile the price on the GP9's is 10 times what it was 25 years ago. I would guess actual sale would be lower but if nothing else they would make platforms for gensets.

GE's are cheap because for years there was no market for parts, once worn out or the lease expired, GE expected you to trade it in for new. So you ran it until it died and that was the end of it. While that's changed some in recent years in some ways it's still like having a Studebaker instead of a Chevy - the only way to find certain parts is to buy another one and have it on hand.

EMD on the other hand has always had a secondary market for parts and so forth, plus there's a wide range of interchangability of parts, to the point that some 567 blocks can take 645 power assemblies. CP Rail and CN are still using rebuilt GP7s/9s in local service, although CP seems to be going to GP20Ds or whatever EMD's new Tier IV compliant 2000hp engine is.

There were some issues with the lease on the 1701-02-03, too, that made it more favorable to buy other power as it became available.

Now I've heard everything. Is Lionel going to come out with one of them too?
You have not heard of those cars? Only been around about 5 years or so. And while I am NOT an authority on the subject, I think I saw one in HO scale. (Or maybe someone custom painted it).

The pink WSOR bxcars are indeed real. The RR Picture Archives website has pictures of the prototype:

Athearn made the model in HO:

All I said was I saw one pass by. Faded to a chalky peachy color and tagged with graffiti.

Too bad time and vandals have taken their toll. They were a sharp looking car when freshly painted. And I suppose it's asking too much given the mentality, but it would have been nice if the spray paint ***holes would have left a car like that alone, given the message it carries.

I don't know. They / it went to Seneca Foods and I believe there are more than one. But the prototype and the model in Matt's links are the same number so maybe not. Anybody have a pic of one other than 503196?

Edit: did a search, and every article I could find suggests this is a one-of-a-kind car.

I recall seeing the Pink WSOR Car in this 105 car Train in Solvay, NY on April 23ed 2011 for the first time. The CSX crew took on a bit more than they could handle with just a GP40 and a Road Slug and they stalled the train. The video was broken down into 5 as this took about 4 hours of playing around to get the train set in a way that Finger Lakes would be able to get it. I did not catch the FGLK train which ran on April 24th but I do recall 4 or 5 B23-7's on it hauling all 105 cars back to Geneva.

Interesting. I wonder why the leased SDs weren't used for such a big train.

FWIW, it looks like the last of the spline cars in long term storage (Himrod string) will be departing Himrod for Geneva later today or tomorrow.

When I filmed this it was in April 2011. The SD's did not arrive till late Spring 2012. Interesting thing is both of them SD's that FGLK happens to be leasing were on lease to the NYS&W in 2011 and went from NYS&W to FGLK in 2012. A buddy of mine saw both SD units in Binghamton, NY and took photos of them 2 weeks before they arrived on Finger Lakes.
