The number in question is 800-772-2222 (replaced with 973-275-5555). I noticed this as well.

The comments following the article are amusing. One of them was "why change the number?" I guess the answer is, to save the cost of an 800 number.

To be fair, this number provides customer service as well. Maybe NJT thought that this number might better serve their customers.
