When was the "Fairland Franklin and Martinsville" railroad in Indiana abandoned. I have photos in 1939, but nothing afterward. It became a part of the NYC before the turn of the last century.

Ok, here is the scoop.

THE FAIRLAND FRANKLIN AND MARTINSVILLE
RAILROAD COMPANY
This company was incorporated under the general laws of Indiana, articles of incorporation being filed with the Secretary of State, January 27, 1877. This corporation was successor to the rights of the Cincinnati and Martinsville Railroad Company which was incorporated under the general laws of Indiana, September 26, 1865. Controlled by The Cleveland Cincinnati Chicago and St Louis Railway Company through ownership of entire capital stock.

I have a 1939 photo of train at Martinsville. On July 1, 1889, it was consolidated into the Big 4. Well into the 20s two daily passenger round trips graced the rails of the 38 mile long railroad.

But by 1942, the Big 4 was ready to give up the ghost for the 18.4 miles between Martinsburg and Trafalger. On December 7, 1942, the ICC OK'd the abandonment. Industrial tracks in Martinsburg were taken over by the PRR and in Morgantown by the IC.

8 years later, the abandonment of the 6.9 between Trafalger and Franklin took place. The line was scrapped on Oct. 11, 1961.
