Okay, couple of questions:

1) Is that GP-38 Dead in tow (for a breakdown rescue) or do they need it for extra power?

2) The GP-38 can MU with the F units?

3) What are the silver exhaust stacks on the rear of the F7 A? Is that HEP?

1.- More horsepower=higher train speed. The extra GP38 is probably needed to attain the 60MPH speed limit, where applicable.

2. Yes. They're all EMD, and the F units are now probably closer to a GP38-2 internally, than anything else. Essentially, they're the same as the trailing GP38, except in a different carbody. All MU connections are standardized.

3. Yes ... extra exhaust for separate HEP unit.

Caught them at the B 50.0 on the B-Line headed east towards Manassas and then south on the mainline. I'd sure love to see them stretch their legs out there on the Piedmont Main.

The Fs came from Railcruise America for the purpose of pulling the top brass around. The last A still needs work and is still at Juniata.

so this thing is supposed to split off at the R-Line in Charlotte and head down to Augusta? What's the route for when it heads up to KY?
