Uhaul,Conrail operated the line from April 1 1976 until the Erie Western took over in summer of 77. In my opinion Conrail did a good job,I watched their trains daily. Conrail used one or two GP 9's,and supplied shippers with covered hoppers plus TOFC flats for the Huntington ramp. This was from Decatur to North Judson. Parts of the old roadbed has been converted back to farmland. Conrail stored miles of old boxcars on the main, the Chicago & Indiana stored new per diem cars on the line also. In my opinion the Erie Western was leasing too many locomotives and cars. I remember hundreds of cars idle in the Huntington yard. Joe
