Here's what I've been able to gather so far:

* The unit was originally one of the SD60MAC demo units;

* The location in these photos is CEECO (in Washington state, I presume?);

* According to Sean Graham-White of LocoNotes, the unit is still owned by EMD and has been at CEECO for several months, undergoing various modifications.

In terms of external modifications, the photos speak for themselves. In terms of internal modifications, your guesses are as good as mine.

CEECO (Coast Engine and Equipment Company) is located in Tacoma, Washington. It is about a quarter of a mile from Tacoma Rail's yard. I was there about three months ago, and the unit was inside, still in its original paint with just about every hatch open and a crew digging around inside. From what I remember, the unit was being done for EMD, but I had a hard time hearing the guy as he talked fast and quite.... The work they did required the long hood to be extended, which is why in the photo it extends over the back platform. I, unfortunately, don't remember what the change was that required the extension.

I know that locomotives can be rebuilt many times. However, looking at the photo's here the locomotive doesn't resemble a SD60MAC to me.It looks a lot like a SD70M-2 or the Gull Winged SD70 ACE /Ic,SD70M-2that went to Australia.

Probably because it's a test unit and because the frame would need to be lengthened in order to accommodate those items. But that's just a guess on my part. The folks at CEECO and EMD must know, but they aren't talking...
