It would be interesting to see a rundown of 2 footers that are in use today. I suppose that it would make sense to limit it to tourist and museum railroads to start with.

Maine seems to be doing well with WWF, Boothbay, MNR, and SRRL.

Mass is at about 5 to 10 percent of 1 two footer. Not sure if it should be counted or not.

I think that Loon Mountain is 2 foot but it's pretty small. Not sure if it qualifies.

Steamer (not Steamer69) visited two two footers in NY State, not too long ago. One was at a X Mas tree farm and was used to carry customers up to the trees. The other was a private 2 foot layout with almost a mile of track. The Xmas tree farm carrying paying passengers so I suppose it should count.

In response to number7s question, here are the 2' trains (that I know of) running in New England and the North East. I have heard rumblings of a few more private railroads, but have not been to them, or know anything about them. If I have missed any, please feel free to add them in. Enjoy. I did not just limit it to tourist railroads and museums, but put in all of the 2' gauge that I know of.

Does the two-foot railroad at "Biddeford Station" still exist, or has that been torn up? I think one of their locomotives ended up at MNGRR; not sure what, if anything, happened with their other rolling stock. If I recall correctly, their coaches came from Storyland.

As far as I am aware, Biddeford station is kapoot. I have heard that some of the trackage may still be there, but there is no operation.

Right, I know it's not operational and hasn't been for years; I was just wondering if the tracks and rolling stock are still there.

Not a clue. Haven't bothered to go by there in quite a long time because they have been fini. Someone who lives close by there might be able to tell us if the rail and any equipment is still there?

I don't live far from it myself, but now that the property is being used predominantly by a company that does airport construction, I didn't really feel comfortable with going in and saying "Hey, got any trains?"

I don't know how current this google maps is, but it shows much of the track still in place. Appears to be a couple of cars still there as well.

Thanks. Looks like the tracks are still in place, at least whenever the satellite imagery was taken.

yea, I'm not so sure how to find out when it was updated last....but looks like a big chunck of it is still there and in.

I live in the vicinity of Lake Pemaquid Campground, and there's no railroad of any sort there.

Re: Lake Pemaquid Campground Railroad.

There are a few pictures of it on their web site:

Looks to be some sort of home-brew steam outline of some sort. Let's invite it to Sheepscot. I'm sure Jason would be thrilled!

Google Earth tells you what the imagery dates are. That area was last updated 5/2010.

In reference to Biddeford Station, there is still a locomotive and some cars there, as well as a 3/4 loop of track. Nothing has been going on there. The Great Northern Standard Gauge car departed the property years ago. Now the track and equipment just sit there....rusting.
