Colorful tower operators

Ok, here's a question:

Anybody old enough out there to remember any "characters" on the B&M?
George Edgecombe at FA tower (Lawrence) and Chicky (Coates?) at Winchester come to mind. They were good at what they did, too.

The only "Coates" I knew was Stanely Coates, who by time I met him, was holding down 1st Trick Tower X in Somerville.
