CN Heritage Unit!

Welcome to the club, CN! GP40-3 #7600 and slug GY-430A #600 have been repainted into Canadian National's classic green and yellow paint scheme! Although the shade of green is lighter than the original livery, they still look great as these are Canadian National's first official heritage units! Also, I believe this makes #600 is the first heritage slug.

And that's not all! There's an entire list of heritage liveries for CN! This is the largest amount of full on heritage units since Norfolk Southern 8 years ago!

The GTW unit looks good. But no Detroit & Toledo Shore Line?

Sad part is that half that list still has real examples floating about.

Three Canadian National locomotives have been repainted into heritage paint schemes, and more are reportedly on the way. Photographs circulating on the internet show locomotives painted in Grand Trunk blue and red; the red, white, and blue BC Rail paint scheme; and the black Illinois Central scheme known to railfans as the “death star” design. Visible in photos the Grand Trunk unit is a CN logo featuring a “25” and the U.S. and Canadian flags, reflecting the 25 years since the privatization of the formerly government-owned railroad through its initial public stock offering.

A Canadian National spokesman said the railroad was not prepared to comment about the locomotives. Unconfirmed reports say there will be a total of 18 locomotives involved. Painting of the locomotives to appear thus far has been outsourced to non-CN facilities.

CN slug #601 has been repainted into an Illinois Central heritage slug. Looks like it´s in Skyomish, which makes sense since I heard something a while ago about Progress Rail at Skyomish rebuilding CN slugs.

Progress Rail is to shut down their Tacoma shops. I fear this may affect CN's heritage program geeps since the two rebuilt heritage GP40s and slugs were rebuilt there.

TACOMA, Wash. — Progress Rail will close its Tacoma locomotive rebuilding facility early in 2021.

In a statement issued this morning, the company said it will move the work currently being performed at Tacoma to other rebuild facilities, including Mayfield, Ky., and Patterson, Ga.

“This consolidation will help eliminate excess capacity and gain necessary efficiencies,” the statement says. “The company will begin a gradual ramp down of activities in Tacoma, with the full transition expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2021.”
