So will CMSL have trackage rights up to Richland, or all the way up to Winslow?
Don't know, but it looks like it is finally time to bring the U-34CH down there for this passenger service!!! I'm sure you agree Mr. Sullivan?? I don't think Jimmy Wilson has the need for it anymore in Garfield!

Also might i add that coal trains with heavy 6 axle power use this stretch of track so the U-boat would not be too heavy for the trackage!!!

I better get in contact with Walter......

An EL unit in South Jersey....it would be like Disneyland for Fallen Flags....as long as the windows don't get broken out. :(

I wonder how they are going to have enough people to do all these trains when the Conductor I was talking to at Cape May this summer was telling me about how hard it was to find enough people to work the regular service. He was saying there was a lot of friction between the couple of people that work there and management.

Cape May Seashore Lines now has secured trackage rights on the entire Cape May Branch for passenger operations anywhere between Winslow Junction and Cape May City.

At this point, however, no plans are in place for service north of Richland Village Station.

CMSL's trackage rights for freight operations remain in place between Tuckahoe and Cape May City.

The distinction/definition is not a trivial one, and it's one New Jersey Transit, NJ-ARP, CMSL, other railroads, and various local representatives wrestled with during the summer of 2005.

Our apologies for the slight delay in responding to this question.

Regular CMSL service between Cape May Court House and Cape May City is cancelled for the rest of the season, as is the Halloween train.
The Santa trains are still scheduled.

Uh, they will have to upgrade the tracks between Woodbine Jct and Cape May Court house before passenger service can operate...And as for the Tuckahoe to Hammonton service I guess CMSLRR will have to borrow or buy some of the NJT Comet I coaches that they will eventually sell!! Are all the Budd RDC's out of service????

NJ-ARP is keenly, fully cognizant of the difficulties involved in re-establishing passenger rail service on the Cape May Branch, believe us.

However, the objective for us in the calendar year 2005 was to secure trackage rights for passenger rail service on the entire Cape May Branch. This NJ-ARP, along with numerous other allies, essentially has secured, at least for now, though more work is needed.

The aforementioned meeting we listed early (May 10, 2005 Hotline) did indeed discuss ways to fill in the track gap between Cape May Court House and Woodbine. For that matter, NJ-ARP is aware of (and at the meeting, highlighted) the growing need for upgrading track south of Cape May Court House, as well.

Update: The CMSL Website headline now states "TRAIN SERVICE BETWEEN TUCKAHOE AND RICHLAND BEGINS ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 15TH"

* Can someone update the title of this thread?

Went through Richland today and they have placed a small structure next to the tracks south of the crossing on the west side. It will probably be a station/ticket booth. It Looks like it could have possibly been a RR building. Anyone know about this structure?

I visited Richland over the weekend and looked inside it. It seems that it was used as some sort of residence at one time; it doesnt look original on the inside. The new faux brick sidwalk, and RR style lighting looks nice along RT 40 though.

*Does anyone know whether funds have been appropriated for a new siding there?

Uhh, I wonder how many people will ride this train??? My guess is not many! Hopefully it will be successful, but I am not holding my breath until the connection can be made to Cape May City......!

From the Daily Journal article posted earlier in this thread:

BUENA VISTA -- The township is getting $500,000 from the state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to bolster ongoing efforts to redevelop its historic Richland Village section.

The money will be used to construct a railroad siding and platform for passenger train service, which will begin next month between the township and Tuckahoe, according to Mayor Chuck Chiarello. Some of the funds also are for renovating the exterior of a building to be used as a visitors center and model railroad display.

The play's the thing, wherein we'll catch the conscience of the King.

NJ-ARP's goal is to establish passenger rail's presence or potential presence for the entire Cape May Branch. NJ-ARP wants landlord New Jersey Transit to recognize the potential of the corporation's own property, something that has not been a given in the past decade.

We can't speak directly for Buena Vista Township, but from what it tells us it wants to be ready to support, and grow, passenger rail opportunities as they arise. This modest first step -- imperfect though it obviously is -- fits that agenda.

Amid the "instant gratification" world of so many, NJ-ARP prefers marathons. The latter are more real(istic).

The "numbers," whatever they might be, can come later. See the River Line.

A complete route would make a big difference. I've also seen plans for a station at the airport in Woodbine (the track is immediately adjacent to the airport), with the intent for the airport to advertise connections from plane to train. Plane owners and renters are always looking for a good day or weekend place to to fly, and conceiveably 50 or more planes on nice weekend days would fly in and take the train, some 100 or more passengers.

For example, we flew to Provincetown Airport, Cape Cod, a few weeks ago on a nice Sunday and there were well over 50 visiting planes, with some folks going to the adjacent beach and others taking the dollar jitney 10 minute ride into town for lunch, shopping, whatever. Cape May has the same potential, using the train from the airport.
