Can anybody identify the heritage of this coach? This photo was shot on September 6, 1983 at the closed Ford assembly plant in Mahwah, NJ. It was stored with other various retired passenger equipment from NJ DOT.
The number appears to be 2418?

If the number is 2918, I may have an answer for you.

NYC 2918 was a Budd 56 seat coach built in 11/47 - 12/74. Went to Amtrak in 1973 and became 5677.

It is now shown as WNRYHS 2918.

From the photo it appears to match what they have.

Their site is: http://www.trainweb.org/wnyrhs/passenger.htm

Take a look and see if you agree.

Nope, it's Santa Fe.... the C-S ("controlled-slack") couplers are one giveaway, NYC only used them on the 4600-4700 (MNCR 1100) series MU cars. And, those trucks....Santa Fe, all the way.

In that batch of ATSF Budd-built cars that NJDot got in 1970 for E-L service, was Budd's FIRST full-sized rail passenger car, ATSF coach #3070. I think that it wound up at a museum after it arrived at Mahwah.
