When they rebuilt main st bridge in Milltown in the mid-1990s they relaid the Millstown spur xing from the RRRR mainline, even though the spur has been abandoned and removed from the mainline since the early 1980s. The xing was in great shape. As I understand it the historic laws included the spur so they weren't allowed to remove the tracks.

A few years ago the xing was torn out and paved over. Even though the xing was in great shape.

Makes no sense to me can anyone explain...

Carajul;
In response to your question about the former RRRR paved over -x-ing in Milltown (Main Street) . I remember seeing workers there sometime in the early part of 2009 working at where you mentioned. Why I don't know. There is a good web site on the RRRR called Tom's Raritan River Railroad Page. very informative and Tom is very knoweldgeable about many aspects of the RRRR. You may want to look at his site, I believe on his RRRR page he has an e-mail contact there. You may want to reach out to him. Steve Coraggio [email protected]
