SPAD (Signal Passed at Danger) is being suggested as a cause of the crash which occurred during the morning rush hour on a snowy day.

The crash occurred at a place where the High Speed Line passes alongside the ordinary lines and as a result no Thalys trains are running from Paris to Brussels, or Eurostars from Lille and London.

There are still no High Speed trains (Thalys and Eurostar) past the site of the collision.
