As someone in a similar thread from another forum pointed out, Maine needs to be careful. Since Maine is currently footing the bill, and the train has to travel through New Hampshire anyway, passengers from New Hampshire add fare revenue for a fairly low incremental cost. Raising fares could drive away passengers and revenue, thus leaving Maine footing an even larger bill.

Commuters and college students seem to make up the bulk of New Hampshire travellers. While commuters might weather the increase fairly well, I suspect college students may turn to cheaper options.
