does anybody know for how long and when the C-420's were in red , white and blue paint ? the picture of the five of them in that scheme is a real shocker for me...i have worked around Sunnyside yard for the last twenty years and never , ever saw them in that paint .

The earliest I remember the red white and blue Centuries is around 1979-80 and then repainted blue and white in mid 80's. Only the L-2's (221-229) were painted in this scheme as the L-1's were long gone.

222-229.....221 was part of the first batch of C420's from 1964. 221 is still running, on the Buffalo Southern as 2010, same number as when it was an NYS&W unit.

you're right and I knew that. After a few beers the keys get a little blurry if you know what I mean.

I put a main generator in the 221 when it was on the NYSW back in '87. The neat thing was even under the NYSW and MTA paint, you could make out the lines of the orange wave paint scheme. The dynavane had been removed before I got on the property.
