CSX is really going at it in Benning Yard with line relocation and construction. I even saw track machinery on the old Pennsy overpass from Benning Yard into the former PEPCO now Mirant Benning Power Plant. I couldn't tell if they were tearing up the old spur or actually doing maintenance. I have not seen any railroad equipment on that bridge since I saw a Pennsy Switcher on it while I was going home from a Senators game in the mid 1960's. Unless the work is in advance of rail movement of some heavy electric generating equipment I can' t imagine coal or oil ever moving back into that plant by rail. The old East Washington RY street level trackage is long gone. Anyone know what's up with the spur?
