Another question arose from watching a "grab bag" post on the Virtual Railfan Youtube channel... 9/30/2021, at 4:29pm Central, a BNSF freight passed by the Oklahoma City Model Railroad Association & Museum. It must of been escorting an NS freight (because two NS engines were on it). On the end, though...

Amtrak baggage car 1258 was on it.

What was that car doing on that consist?
Does that happen often?

That's an older "smooth-side" baggage car, not a new "viewliner" baggage car, so I doubt it is still owned by Amtrak.

Probably the car was being shipped someplace by (or to) a post-Amtrak owner. My wife saw a couple old coaches in Amtrak paint go through Terre Haute on a freight 15 years ago: I'm still jealous. :-D

The 1200s were gone long before the Budds.

1258 is either St. Louis or Pullman.

Huh, weird. It must of just gotten sold off since Amtrak says it still owns it as of 2019. I found a 5 year equipment asset line plan equipment appendices PDF that lists the ownership...

And TrainOrders shows it was soliciting bids out for the cars. Nice.

Didn't Amtrak have a disposal sale in the last 18 months? Thought I remembered a bunch of heritage bag cars in that.

If you watch sometimes even the old Amboxcars can still be seen with their blue/red stripes. Easy to paint out reporting marks for something else.

I suppose you never know when or where these cars may still be on the back of a freight headed for a new owners.

For a while I saw ex-Amtrak boxcars (the older, smaller ones, if I remember correctly, but maybe both those and the newer hi-cube ones) spotted frequently at a Terre Haute business that gets boxcar-loads of something, a couple cars at a time. Maybe it was the same one car over and over again, even.
