ADMIN NOTE

We asked you, again and again, to move on from the paint scheme. You didn’t.

Some of your posts were summarily removed.

Let’s leave the paint scheme behind, shall we?

I don't mind a good discussion, and paint scheme is included. But after a while it becomes a distraction to what's actually going on. The paint. Is the paint. Is the paint. It's not going to change; it is. What. It is. Let's talk about delivery, acceptance, operations, sightings, pictures, etc. Paint is old news.

Capiche? :P

Volks, as Mr. Smith notes, what counts is Acela II's public acceptance, if Amtrak is placing their bets that the Power Car's siding is not contoured to that of the cars and that the livery, with the ugly "danger ahead" Red doors apparently for First Class, are not "turn offs", then so be it.

For reasons I've noted at the 49th Birthday topic, and for which there has been concurrence, the "base" of passengers from which Amtrak has to draw, has been noticeably diminished. We can only hope that this new equipment, will attract new passengers to first recover the base shortfall and add to such.

Believe Alstrom has an idea of a "mid-life" power car upgrade for the Acela II's if the required tech for the upgrade is developed and proven out.
Am not worried about the "Slab sided" power car,Alstrom's R&D wasn't worried in the scaled "wind tunnel" testing.
The only odd thing is the M-8 style coupler in the nose instead of a knuckle coupler, any rescue power needs to carry a "cheater"
for towing the set to the nearest "repair point".

Wasn't one of the requirements from Amtrak the ability to couple two (or more?) trainsets together? How does this vs an AAR coupler affect that?
