while traveling down on I-55, towards chicago, just about a minute before i got off I-55 i noticed a small intermodal yard up above the highway that was operated by union pacific (UP trains everywhere), and the yard was right next to chicago union station not down the bnsf line but down the other way, south of union station, and was wondering if anybody knows what yard that is?

That would be Canal St. Yard.

Which should be closed or closing soon.

It is pretty much closed already. No trains run out of there anymore, they are only accepting transfers from foreign railroads and switching them out I believe, and I'm not sure how much longer that will last, either.
