3705 is now withdrawn from service being prepped for the overhaul. Apparently it will be sent once the last 3600 car gets sent out.

The early action on pulling 3705 into the rebuild queue means something broke on it this week and it was going to be OOS anyway.

Yeah, now NETransit says that it may be repaired at Riverside early and they'll send another 3700 instead

3647 yanked today for prep-to-ship. Final two non-rebuilds in service are puke-teals 3674 and 3682...with 3621, 3687, 3695 now back in-testing. The non-rebuilt 36's are almost certainly in their last 2 weeks of service.

3705, which very briefly appeared in the prep-to-ship line after it broke, apparently only needed a quick fix and is reported back in-service.

Looks like 3652 is back too. There are also no more cars with pull cords on the Green Line.

Bumper crop in the testing line: 3621, 3652, 3684, 3687, 3695 all jammed up looking to get cleared for return to service. 4 of those cars have been in-testing for 2 weeks now with 3684 being the only more-recent returnee, so Riverside is probably in a rush to clear that glut before staff vacations start later in the week.

This could indeed be the final week of service for remaining non-rebuilds 3674 and 3682 since it only takes 2 graduates from that overstuffed testing line to get both of them yanked.

3682 is still in service, just saw it leading a very rusty Type 8 to Riverside.

Type 8's rusty already? What does that say for the quality of the bodywork?

It says that they were built between 10 and 20 years ago, which is plenty of time to rust.

I haven't seen a rusty Type 8 myself. What I have noticed, by the articulation joint, is the car washer system just doesn't cut it. It usually leaves the grime and any rail/brake dust behind and after awhile it gets a rust appearance. The first batch of Type 7s, the 3600s, had a bad paint job which failed and the rust come it which I haven't scene on the Type 8s.

Basically, anywhere something stuck off the car or seams met, especially the one above the windows that stretches the entire car, was covered in rust. I saw several type 8’s with rust, but that one was by far the worst. Unfortunatly, I could not get the #.

I guess it's deceptive - you think of those cars as being relatively new, but they spent a lot of time sitting around until all the issues were resolved. I didn't realize the oldest of them were built in 1998.
Of course to someone as old as me, 1998 seems like last week :)

3682 is now being prepped for overhaul, leaving 3674 as the last remaining original 3600 series car.

After about 3 weeks of no new cars being accepted, 3687 has now been accepted for service.
