I've always had a dream of doing this to the former depot/station in Plainfield, Conn., along the P&W. That one just makes me sad.
Are there any trains on that line?
Oh yes. That's right on the HRCC Berkshire Line: http://goo.gl/maps/JDUT9.

Of course, Housy's such a derailment-prone blusterfluck of an operation you better have good homeowner's insurance and sleep on the FAR side of the house when they pass.

Awesome photo! I need to buy a lottery ticket.

I have the NECR running quite literally in my condo's backyard in Yantic. Wherever my next house is, I would love to have a railroad running nearby. That station-house in Warren would be perfect. Although, judging by the photos on the realtor's photos, the rails look disused. I wonder how often trains go by?

What depot/station in Plainfield are you referring to? The Plainfield station (at the junction of the former N&W and H,P&F lines) has been gone for many, many years. Sadly, an authentically-kept, albeit very basic, freight house in the Moosup section of town was demolished a few years ago to make way for a CVS drugstore. That was the last station building in Plainfield, as far as I know. If you're aware of another still in existence, perhaps an early structure moved away from the tracks and no longer easily recognized, I'd be very interested to know more about it. Any photos?

This one. It's off Route 14A. Perhaps it's a freight house; there's unused lines leading up to it.

Twice a day. Maybe a lot more if management ever finds someone in Hartford delusional enough to fund their passenger rail scheme.

FYI the station is in the Town of Cornwall, not the Town of Warren. It's almost underneath the concrete arch bridge that carries US 7 and CT 4 across the Housatonic.

That's the office building for the former Lawton Mills complex. The mills, some portions of which may still remain, used to stand much closer to the office (and 14A) until the major portion was demolished a few years back following a massive fire.

It's an interesting old building, but it has nothing to do with the railroad.

Jack,

Thanks for clarifying. I just assumed it was a former train station because it's so close, and there's an abandoned portion of track that leads right up to the side of the building.

No problem, duckpin. The track you mention swings close to the building in question as the start of a sharp S-curve to clear what had been the northerly end of the mill. With the mill buildings now mostly gone, the purpose of that track is no longer so obvious.
