Do the Long Beach, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branches get good ridership? Should the West Hempstead branch be abandoned? How would you go about saving it?

Long Beach, more then enough rider ship, no need to be abandond.

Far Rockaway, alot of ridership during rush hr's but then the # goes down a bit during the day. (still no need to abandond)

West Hempstead, Once connected to mineola&hempstead branch, has rider ship during the rush hr. but is not to hot over night and inbetween the rush's.

the line would have been better off as a diesel line if anything, and should still connnect to CLP and the CRR east. the removing of this line was not such a smart move.(maby it was at the time tho)

Yes, they get good ridership, except for the WH. The WH should not be abandonned though b/c it can be used as a great intra-island route.

NIMBY, Lets go and plan this intra island route, I sooo agree w/ that. part of the low ridership is that the line just ends insted of contunuing to CLP and then the CRR east and the Main both west and to OB.

the people incharge are really not intrested in the best possible decission for the future of long island and the future of the lirr. they really dont want a railroad job, they just want the money.
