Saw seven trains in that timeframe, but none in the last hour. All trains were NS, didn't see any CSX trains. Here's a recap:

7:40 EB NS 24Z 8-40CW & D9-40C
8:15 EB NS 18N D9-40CW & NREX SD45-2T
8:35 EB NS 214 BNSF D9-44CW & D9-40CW
8:57 EB NS 20K PRR SD60I & 2629 (primer SD70M)
9:25 WB NS 11J 2 D9-40CWs
10:00 EB NS 212 7115, 1615 & high hood SD40-2
10:38 WB NS 213 D9-40C & PRR 6764

Overall it was a good morning. Seven trains and they were all NS. I was hoping to see some CSX trains as last week, as their trains had a good mix of engines including SD60M, SD70MAC and SD70ACE units.

Weird I went Tuseday and saw all CSX trains and two NS trains.

That explains it. Thank you!

With some snow falling this morning (I had planned on going today, so the snow was an added bonus), I headed up to South Plainfield getting up there by 7:45 a.m. I had missed both NS 18G and NS 18N and I heard NS 214 on the Port Reading Secondary shortly after my arrival. After that, it was a pretty quiet morning. Here's what I saw:

1. 8:34 NS 212 NS 7556, NS 8409 & NS 9814
2. 8:42 CSX Q703 CSX 5283 and a another GE widecab
3. 11:33 CSX Q190 CSX 930 & CSX 4821
4. 12:26 CSX Q300 CSX 8838 & CSX 7700

And that what is. I left after the Q300 went by.

Sounds like a nice day especially with the snow.

Tonight, an eastbound CSX train had general freight, a CSX engine, two ex NJT comet I's marked Patriot Eagle and two boxcars marked safety train. What the heck was that?

Patriot Eagle is a firefighters training car I thought, it has a classroom or something in it.

Thanks. I've been trying to fine tune my roster shooting.

Does anyone know of a way to get onto the 'south' side of the lehigh line, east of CP Port Reading - without trespassing or getting hassled/arrested?

Bound Brook station would be a GREAT place for roster shooting - but I need to get onto the other side of the lehigh line...

What about in South Plainfield at the CR yard parking lot. Are they cool if I camped out for the morning in their lot - the one on the opposite side of the tracks from that diner? That way I could get the CSX trains too.

The park at New Market has too many obstructions... I need a new place to shoot along the line.

What about hanging out @ Potter/Inman Ave. in Edison next to the CVX pharmacy? I have seen tons of Kewl shots there over the years!! :-D

I'm familiar w/ CP Potter... but I thought it'd be a bit weird/suspicious in the eyes of the cops to be sitting in the CVS parking lot....

I was hoping I could get shots closer to CP Port Reading so I can get pics of the trains on the Port Redding Line AND the Lehigh Line.

I might give Potter a shot tho... I am getting sick of shooting NS all the time.
