Legislation in this state is unsurprisingly anti-Philadelphia in general. So many good ideas have been shot down by Harrisburg because they have some feud with us or something, despite our city accounting for over 30% of state revenue

And one of the leading lights in the legislature is fond of saying that commuter rail is welfare and should be cut out altogether.

Perhaps the rest of the state would be onboard if they got something out of it, such as commuter rail in other parts of the state. Take the railroad from SEPTA and reorganize it into a statewide agency under PennDOT.

PRR?

No way. Too confusing for the common user of this "welfare" system.

The name should reflect both the type of business it is, a railroad, and the region that railroad serves, Pennsylvania.

I am sure we could put together a $3.2 million study to come up with an answer for this... It's just such a headscratcher. A railroad for Pennsylvania? Better make that a $3.4 million study. :-D

It's only funny / sad because it's true.

Penndot should contract out rail service, we don't need. Statewide rail service. Septa should have to bid for the service they run now though

You would be surprised that the feelings for state rail control are not in the SEPTA management corner. Many people recognize that a revision is needed for the state to develop a "system" other than the septa model that would benefit the entire state. Some of the "past events" have not shed a good light on septa.

That's encouraging. Something needs to change. The state needs a more comprehensive plan for passenger rail, and SEPTA is clearly not the agency that can handle it.

I should have said "we don't need a statewide rail operator"..we do need statewide service
