SD-9 ? (-24?) 6138

Saw this high-hood, round-roofed unit today working into Murray Yard, North KC down the old Q mainline.

She was freshly repainted in Orange and Green.

That locomotive is a contemporary with me (especially if she's an SD-9). Why would they repaint her?

Why not? We have alot of SD-9's many of which are repainted.

Are the SD9's in decent enough condition that BNSF will be using them for some time? I hope to see one eventually.

The BN overhauled many of there SD9's right before the Merger in an effort to improve there lifespan.

I think we have 53 or so left on the roster. Some stored some working. Some of them roam the country on manifest trains. Most are 50 years old or will be soon, what a locomotive.
