when they come up to me, before they even start talking, I simply say

"tell me a story I haven't heard before and Ill give you some change - if I heard it before, forget it"

or

"make me laugh, make your story worth my while and amuse me"

they usually just look at me with a confused face and walk away :)

ex Budd man wrote:Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. :P P.T. Barnum would be rolling in crypt, laughing.... :-D ..."This way to the Egress".... I saw those same 'deaf-mutes' work the el and subway in Philly years ago. One time a mark didn't bite and as the guy walked off I heard the 'dummy 'say "cheap SOB!"
That's like the blind man who says "Thanks a lot, fatso."
