I saw two Sanford & Eastern putt-putts flying down the Maine Turnpike this morning. They looked very nice. :-)

I remember seeing a bit of information once that said at the end of the 19th century the Worcester, Nashua and Portland (the predecessor of the S&E) was the busiest single track railroad in the US. This ended when the B&M took over. The B&M consolidated three lines from Massachusetts into Portland, and the Eastern and WN&P were truncated.
