A passenger set with the MBTA 1052 is currently tied down on the Danvers Industrial Track in Salem following a mechanical issue.

Which track is that? Is that the one that heads to Peabody?

BO-1 Eng MEC 313 is backed off and tied down on the Castle Hill Lead.

Just out of couriousily, why do they tie down on Castle Hill instead of going all the way to Peabody. Also noticed they have been tying down here more often than off of Bridge Street recently.

Also, last weekend I noticed the mysterious Box Car on the siding on the other side the tracks form Castle Hill was gone. They cut the brush back and pulled it out. When did they do this?

They were heading back to Boston, not to Peabody. Their engine crapped out on the mainline and eventually got running well enough to be ordered into the yard lead to put away.

The California Oil car was finally removed maybe a month ago. The building was sold and the new owner has no interest in rail service. They'd occasionally try pulling it out every so often over the course of a year, now they finally got it.

Oh, I assumed it was a outbound train that was heading to Peabody that parked there. We passed one yesterday in Chelsea heading north towards Peabody on Train 160.

Same the new owners have no interest in rail service.

Looked like about 8 empties on the tail off Allen's Lane. Shrubbery has grown up that obscures most of the cars.

They have been doing a lot of work at the signal tower at Salem Station. A brand new roof. Now they have installed brand new modern windows.

What's the purpose of all this work? Are they planning on manning the signal tower?

hmm not sure.

funny how this line sees more action than it has in years and this thread is deader than ever

Preservation of the tower was to happen along with the rebuild of Salem station. Not sure what the end goal is for it's use though.

Moves are less newsworthy when they happen regularly.

Is Univar still receiving cars? I noticed the other day while taking the train that the siding was overgrown and looked like it had not been used for awhile. I also noticed recently a lot of tanker trucks going into their facility.

I want to say yes. I notice the amount of tanker cars change from 1 to to about every 5 to 7 weeks or so.

So probably not often at all.

Looks like some work will be taking place in the near future.
Rousselot Gelatin Rail Extension Project – Peabody: $221,640
This project will improve rail operations at a gelatin manufacturing facility leading an increased volume of rail deliveries and the associated reduction in product delivered by truck.
The planned work will allow more product to be stored on site, minimizing the risk of plant shutdown during storm events and a reduction of train movements through busy Peabody Square.
