No, it's not just your opinion.

Remember that a lot of this congestion was created by NJT by stuffing too many trains onto the High Line. THAT Tunnel's not going to help, because none of the present congestion is planned to be relieved by it, but 23 new trips per hour under the Hudson are instead planned.

That's exactly how I see it......like I know that some NEC and Midtown Direct Trains have had severe problems in the past (and some still do)...but you can only put but so many trains on a double track line....and its not even like both tracks are occupied in the Peak direction...its like a bracelet of trains using that one track out of NY...that brief 4 track segement in Secaucus ...helps very little(if at all)....all that congestion makes service very slow...but o well what can you do

Most of the problems on the NEC trains were caused by some kind of switch problem at Lincoln interlocking (in Metuchen) - It sounded like the switch that was causing the problem was a switch inbetween 2 and 1, forcing trains to low level at Metuchen, and i think one of those trains had to reverse back to go around the bad switch.

You can tell the NJ politicians to stop fixing what isn't broken, for one. Right now, they're listening to a greedy minority instead of the electorate.

Further, you can help stem the tide against the political games they play with Amtrak in DC. Things would get worse if the segment of the NEC within New Jersey were to transfer ownership and dispatching from Amtrak to NJT.

Agreed. Balkanization is not the way to go.

Add more tracks to the High Line, adjust the signal system to support a more aggressive braking curve, provide two more tunnels under the Hudson and new terminal space in Manhattan. That would be a start. Oh, that's right...that's what ARC is doing.

Right and wrong. Yes, ARC will add 2 tracks to the High Line. Yes, ARC will add 2 more tunnels under the river. No, it won't help anything because they plan on doubling the # of trains, meaning the same amount of congestion will be present. It will not be any better. It will be exactly the same.

A more aggressive braking curve - riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

any more "aggressive" and you are gonna have injuries on board trains.

Also, fixing some of the "known" trouble spots with the signal system would speed of trains as well (cab signal drops)

Does anyone know what happened to 1261 (the 6:13 departure from Secaucus Jct. to Waldwick)? I boarded, we sat, eventually the conductor asked if something was wrong... then after a little longer the conductor said the dispatcher was holding us for reasons unknown, and eventually that train was cancelled with passengers transferred to 59 (changed to a local). Not everyone fit, 61 went express (much fighting about this even though 1173 was sitting nearby ready to pick others up after the PVL train came through), and 1173 mopped up the remaining passengers. I gave up and went back home to Newark since the delay caused me to miss the doctor's appointment I had scheduled. As I was leaving, I saw 4111 (Blockline would be proud!) show up lite just behind the "disabled" 1261.

The question I have is that apparently the dispatcher was somehow involved. If the train were physically disabled, I'd expect the engineer to be the one with the information. The locomotive was MN4190 -- is this a rebuild or not?

Not, this is the GP40PH-2 oddball MTA unit that doesn't have the full body. I'm assuming eventually it will be rebuilt and renumbered!

Full body? From what I thought the only major difference was the lack of flared radiators? It still has an extended carbody and seporate HEP unit on the extended part just like all the other GP40PH-2 units on NJT right now.

What a mess. I got really lucky - I took the 5:40 out f Hoboken last night to Hackensack with my fiancee, and we got there on time with no problems. And it was the only 2nd or 3rd time I have ever been on the PVL...
