I've seen pics lately of depowered U-boats equipped with radio receivers, for MU with non-radio locomotives. I'm still trying to get my mind around why this makes sense - I understand about not having to equip quite as many locomotives with radio, but why not equip a boxcar or xfer caboose? With scrap prices as high as they are now, it's my conjecture a junk U-boat is worth at least $10,000 as scrap, if not quite a bit more.

Union Pacific has dozens of -7s (not U-boats) lying around that are none too reliable!!! I believe that the cabooses and boxcars are ill equipped and are not as plentiful!!! The units should have not been repainted since they are now being graffited and plus they are not lookers!!! I am of course, just pretending, to know these things.

Seeing this topic, in it's original form http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34730 I have decided to lock this one. Feel free to add any FACTS to the original topic. Guesses about graffitti, and boxcars, most likely will be deleted, as they have nothing to do, with RCL sleds/control units mentioned in original topic. Posting more photos about unrelated railroads, also will be deleted, Terry...... :(

For Tadman, the locos are easier to equip, as they already contain a MU system, locomotive AB system and have platforms on each end, as well as easily ridden steps, making them ideal for long distance shove/pulling moves, where an operator might more safely ride. Add to that, headlights, and bell already mounted, and the useless loco is readily seen, as the faster way to build a sled. Regards
