Guess this is the place to post since there isn't an Illinois Central forum per se, and Illinois Central is now part of CN...

What was the consist of the "City of New Orleans" like at the time of the train's inauguration in 1947?

Might want to PM Gilbert B Norman, he's a former frequent IC rider, although not during the 1940's. I would assume it involved (2) 4000-series E7s, coaches, diner, and lounge, all painted in the chocolate/orange. Exact consist is not clear. My book on the topic is currently 10 hours away - I'm out of town for holidays.

On inauguration:

Dining Car Service - Chicago to New Orleans.
Louisville to Fulton.

Coach Lounge Cars - Louisville to New Orleans.

Coaches - Chicago to New Orleans.
St. Louis to New Orleans (No. 201 to Carbondale).

Same consist basically on NB trip.
