I know it wasn't mentioned in the original press release, but will they be doing any "special" phase 5 units? Obviously everything else is for the most part in phase 5, but I'm talking a fresh coat of paint, 1971-2011 decals, etc.

Would've been nice if they'd repainted a unit in the original as-delivered Genesis paint scheme:

Not that I'm complaining; I think it's wonderful that they're doing anything at all to celebrate their anniversary.

Actually 184 isn't too far off from the original P42 paint scheme, they didn't do black around the cab of that one. Here is a good shot of the front of it. 66 is trailing too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/akagoldfis ... /contacts/

Those two went east on the Capital tonight. I don't want to sound like I am complaining, but I am kind of tired of seeing the heritage units running the same lines over and over again, they seem to be on the Capital and the City of New Orleans all the time. 145 did show up on the Eagle once and 156 was on the Lincoln Service twice but that's it. The only time one has ran west of Chicago was 156 on 3 and then back on 4, but it was third out both of those trips behind standard Phase V P42s. Amtrak should be running these all across the system, not on the same trains over and over again! The bad thing about the Capital here in the Chicago area is that it runs against the sun both eastbound and westbound and you can't get any kind of good photos.

The 156 likely only went west so it could be in the Pacific Railroad Society's 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee.

At least it gives the basic onlooker some insite into the history of the train's equipment. To bad the republican budget proposal for 2012 might kill all this if it passes...

Huh? What does the 2012 budget have to do with the 40th anniversary repaints and exhibit train?

Haha I wish that was my photo, let me tell ya, but it isn't, it's a photo from a friend of mine. I would've posted the link to my photo if I had seen it! :P

If one of the heritage units show up on the Capital again you better believe I'll go downtown to shoot it considering it departs while it is still a little light outside! I really hope they decide to send one west leading on 3, 5 or 7, all three of those head west in the afternoon when the light on them is nice.

I wish the excursion would come to NYP or NWK, but NHV is close enough.

If I were to see it in NYC, I'd much rather see it in GCT, or even across the Hudson in Hoboken.

I'll most likely go to NHV to see it, and even SPG or PVD. I'm going to WAS for Nat'l Train Day, and I will see it there.

I would assume that NYP is simply too busy to host a static display, especially when most tracks run through. Either LIRR, NJT, or Amtrak needs just about every slot.

A F40 would not be allowed in NYP or GCT and NYP has no standby lines to plug in the HEP for train.
As for MNCR as a railroad theye have nothing to do with Amtraks history or past, other than providing a terminal before empire connection was completed.

As Dutch said, the 406 couldn't make it into NYP, and would have to be left in Sunnyside. As for the HEP, they could probably just hook up an AEM or HHP (that is, if they have any extra laying around on that particular day).

If they wanted to display it in Penn for a few days, the best place and time would probably be Tracks 1-4 on a weekend.

To bad. Curse you tunnel clearances and traffic density! ;)
